How We Work
We use education to empower marginalized communities, including religious and ethnic minorities, as well as marginalized individuals, such as women and members of the LGBTQ community. We follow the mission statement that all people, regardless of religion and ethnicity, should have the right to participate in their societies and lead dignified social and economic lives. The organization strives towards realizing these goals by partnering with community leaders, local organizations, and policy-makers to host educational workshops in which they equip marginalized communities with the knowledge, skillset, and tools to enable them to work towards a democratic society. We are distinct from other local NGOs in Myanmar in that our work focuses on groups and communities, such as Muslim minority groups, who are often overlooked or ignored in mainstream dialogue and policymaking. The organization is dedicated to the empowerment of religious minorities as well as advocacy surrounding the importance of religious diversity in Myanmar. We seek to overcome existing tensions between ethnic and religious groups by using education and open dialogue to inspire social and political change in the country. We facilitate round-table discussions between community leaders to give them a platform to voice their concerns and develop comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable solutions.
We focus our support in four different areas: social integration, civic and political engagement, private sector engagement, and research and advocacy.
Social Integration: We host workshops, lecture series, and awareness-raising campaigns on national integration in which individuals from diverse backgrounds, including religious scholars and religious minority leaders, were invited to discuss and develop initiatives to be implemented in their respective communities.
Civic and political engagement: We lead leadership training seminars that work to equip marginalized communities with a greater understanding of their political rights as well as the necessary tools and skillset to exercise these rights in both their work as well as their personal lives.
Private sector engagement: We work to promote and empower local and small businesses by providing them with organizational management support and raising awareness surrounding corporate social responsibility.
Research and advocacy: We conduct relevant surveys to support informed decision-making across the projects that the organization undertakes. The latter is the newest pillar that we have incorporated into our mission statement but it serves to solidify the work that the organization is doing as well as lend credibility to the projects that are developed.
Our work is carried out with the following principles :
Where We Work
Mosaic Myanmar's efforts toward the social integration of religious and ethnic minorities encompass a broad spectrum, targeting not only minority groups but also majority communities. This dedication to inclusion is deeply rooted in our core values, irrespective of the nature of our initiatives. To achieve this, Mosaic Myanmar takes a cultural demography-oriented approach, prioritizing engagement and empowerment across diverse marginalized communities. These endeavors extend across various regions such as Shan State, Mandalay Region, and Ayeyarwady Region. Expanding beyond the mentioned areas, our initiatives also hold significance in states and regions marked by a robust presence of diverse religious groups, where religious harmony plays a pivotal role in establishing a robust foundation for social unity. This commitment is evident in places like Bago Region, Mon State, Yangon Region, and Karen State. Furthermore, our dedication to inclusivity extends to the remaining states and regions, encompassing non-urban locales that are frequently overlooked in most capacity-building plans. These areas often lack access to vital information concerning Myanmar's future state structure and federal options.
